EXPLORE PUERTO PLATA & CABLE CAR
Join us for a day of discovery and FUN things to do in Amber Cove as you explore Puerto Plata from the Victorian era district in the heart of Puerto Plata to the city’s highest point! After a friendly greeting by your Welcome Team outside the Amber Cove Cruise Center, you will be whisked away in air-conditioned comfort. After departing the Amber Cove Cruise Center, you will travel through the city before beginning a fully narrated mountain drive to the summit of Mount Isabela de Torres at 2555 feet above sea-level. Once at the top, you will explore with your guide, the beautiful gardens, see a representation of a typical countryside house or “casa tipica” and take photos of the Christ the Redeemer Statue (a smaller version of the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) You will then board the Caribbean’s only cable car for the scenic descent. Once at the base of Mt Isabela de Torres, you will re-board your transport for the drive to Fort San Felipe, an historic Spanish fortress built in 1577 to protect the city of Puerto Plata from pirates and other enemies. Here at Puerto Plata’s oldest surviving structure, your knowledgeable guide will provide interesting historical facts regarding the fort and its purpose. You will enter the fort and learn even more via the audio headsets that will be provided.
